Biography

Scarlett Johansson was born November 22, 1984 in New York City. Her father has roots in Denmark and her mother was raised in the US in Bronx, NY. She has a twin brother named Hunter. She also has a sister and two other brothers. In 2002 she graduated from The Professional Children's School in Manhattan.

She started acting at a very young age, her first major motion picture role came when she was only ten years old. Her first roles where in North in 1994, Just Cause in 1995 and If Lucy Fell in 1996. She went on to roles in The Horse Whisperer, Ghost World and Lost in Translation, Girl with a Pearl Earring and Match Point. All of her performances were met with good critical reviews and fan appreciation. She was nominated for two best actress awards at the Golden Globes in 2003, one year after she graduated from high school. She won best actress for Lost in Translation. She also received a Golden Globe nomination for her role in A Love Song for Bobby Long in 2004.

In 2005 she starred opposite Ewan McGregor in The Island. It was her first female lead role in a major motion picture action film. She has modeled for Louis Vuitton and was signed in 2006 to model for L'Oreal. She was photographed nude for the cover of the February 2006 issue of Vanity Fair magazine with Keira Knightley. Johansson took part in an anti-poverty campaign which was organized by U2 lead singer, Bono.
